MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles fell to the No. 3 seeded Seton Hill Griffins on Thursday, 5-2, and then fell to No. 2 Millersville 8-4, in the NCAA DII Baseball Atlantic Regional as their season comes to an end.
No. Seton Hill def. No. 6 Charleston, 5-2
Charleston tallied eight hits in the contest while Seton Hill had just four hits.
The Golden Eagles came out fast and scored in the top of the first as Trent Dosenbach singled to right scoring Samuel Lemond. And then Derek Seiss singled up the middle as Trent Dosenbach crossed the plate as they led 2-0.
However, those would be the only two runs scored for Charleston in the ballgame. Seton Hill scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth as they trailed by one, 2-1.
Seton Hill had a big sixth inning scoring four runs as they took a 5-2 lead and went on to seal the win over UC.
Trent Dosenbach went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Derek Seiss also went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Samuel Lemond went 4-for-4 in the contest. UC’s Breven Deckrosh pitched five innings allowing four hits, five earned runs, with two strike outs.
Owen Mandler had two RBIs for the Griffins while Brady McGuire went 2-for-3 in the game. Sean Williams pitched six innings allowing six hits, two earned runs, and struck out four batters.
No. 2 Millersville def. No. Charleston, 8-4
Charleston fell to Millersville, the No. 2 seed in the NCAA DII Baseball Atlantic Regional, 8-4. UC tallied seven hits in the contest while committing one error. Millersville finished with nine hits and two errors.
Millersville struck first in the bottom of the second scoring three runs, 3-0.
The Golden Eagles then tied it up in the top of the fourth, 3-3, as Trent Dosenbach singled scoring Andrew Kobryn. Then in the same inning Derek Seiss two a single up the middle as Trent Dosenbach and Collin Kemp both crossed the plate.
However, Millersville would respond in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs on two hits as they retook a 5-3 lead. Millersville added three more runs in the fifth inning as they now held an 8-3 lead.
UC would score a run in the ninth when Collin Kemp hit a sac fly to right field scoring John Stansbury II, but the Golden Eagles would fall 8-4.
Derek Seiss went 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Collin Kemp and Trent Dosenbach each had an RBI. Landon Ingram pitched two innings allowing four hits and three strike outs.
Matthew Williams for Millersville went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Millersville had four other players record an RBI in the win. Eli Simonton pitched 6.2 innings allowing five hits, two earned runs, and struck out three batters.
