Game 10 #2S Charleston def. #2N Frostburg State, 9-2

The University of Charleston clinched a berth in the championship game of the MEC Baseball Tournament presented by The Health Plan by defeating Frostburg State, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon at GoMart Ballpark.
Pitching was key for the Golden Eagles as they were able to limit Frostburg State, who entered the game averaging 12 runs per game in the tournament. With the win, Charleston improves to 24-29 overall on the year, while the Bobcats’ season ends with an overall record of 36-18.
Davin Fletcher (1-4) earned the win on the hill for Charleston, throwing five innings and striking out four. Fletcher only allowed three hits before turning it over to the bullpen. Simon Bargo was the first Golden Eagle to come in out of the bullpen. He proceeded to strike out the side in his only inning of action. Charleston then turned to Dreven Deckrosh, who threw 1.2 innings, giving up one hit and two runs, both earned. Kai Close went the rest of the way, giving up no hits and no runs.
Trent Dosenbach gave Charleston an early lead with a 1st inning home run to right-center field. The Golden Eagles added to the lead in the 5th inning when they plated four runs to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Golden Eagles started the 5th inning with three consecutive hits, including a double from John Stansbury and singles from Drew Lucy and Andrew Kobryn. Kobryn’s single drove in Stansbury. Collin Kemp reached base later in the inning on a fielder’s choice and would score along with Drew Lucy on Derek Seiss’ two RBI double.
Looking to extend the lead, Ashton Cochran and Stansbury led off the 6th inning with back-to-back singles. Cochran scored on an RBI single from Kobryn, and Stansbury scored on the play following a throwing error.
Frostburg State tried to get its offense going in the bottom of the 8th inning. Jackson Schalick reached on a fielder’s choice play, then scored on a double from Ryan Bouma. A pair of wild pitches allowed Bouma to take third base and then score to cut the deficit to 7-2.
Charleston answered right away to push the game out of reach with two more runs in the 9th inning, with runs from Collin Kemp and Dosenbach. Then, in the bottom of the inning, they were able to shut down the Bobcats and ended the game on a fly out to center field from Manny Hall.
Derek Seiss and Andrew Kobryn were catalysts at the plate for the Golden Eagles, each finishing 2-for-5 at the plate. Seiss drove in three runs, while Kobryn drove in two to help Charleston advance to the championship game.
Championship Game - #2S Charleston def. #3S Glenville State, 6-5

The University of Charleston capitalized on a big 2nd inning to win its sixth MEC Baseball Tournament Championship, defeating Glenville State 6-5 Sunday evening at GoMart Ballpark.
The championship marks the fourth title in five years for the Golden Eagles, who battled back from after a loss in the tournament opener to win four straight elimination games, including two on Sunday.
All of the scoring for Charleston came in the top of the 2nd inning, where they plated six runs. Derek Sess, Abe Fenwick, and Maxwell Layne each singled to start the inning and scored. Later in the inning, Ashton Cochran, John Stansbury and Andrew Kobryn reached with singles. Cochran scored on a single from Kobryn, while Stansbury and Kobryn both scored on a triple from Collin Kemp. In the inning, the Golden Eagles scored six runs on seven hits.
Glenville State got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Gavin Blair reached on a walk and would later score on a throwing error.
The Pioneers were back at it in the 3rd inning, cutting the Charleston lead to two runs. The runs all came with two outs in the inning. Jacob Meadows walked and scored on Zach Laurie’s double to right center field. Later, Laurie and Ashton Crace scored on a single by Greyson McNeill, moving the score to 6-4.
Charleston’s defense came up big in the bottom of the 7th inning. With the score still 6-4, Glenville State mounted a two-out rally. Luke Sweigart singled to RF, Colby Guy walked, and then the bases were loaded when Carlos De Jesus walked to set up the key player of the night. After Luke Sweigart came around to score on Jacob Meadows single to left field, Colby Guy was thrown out at home plate by Derek Seiss' pinpoint throw to end the inning.
Over the final two innings, the Golden Eagles would hold the Pioneers to a single baseball runner with Landon Ingram striking out four batters in the 8th and 9th innings to preserve the win for the University of Charleston.
Sam Sheets (3-1) earned the victory on the mound for Charleston, with Ingram picking up his second save of the season. The loss went to Zach Dellerman (8-3). Sheets threw 1.2 innings without allowing a hit and striking out two batters. The Golden Eagles used six pitchers who held the Pioneers to just four hits on the night. JP Shutz started and got in 2.1 innings of work while allowing no hits.
The Golden Eagles will find out when they are heading for the NCAA Tournament during tonight's selection show.
