2026 MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Recap | Day 2

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Entering the final day of the Mountain East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, the University of Charleston men and women lead the way.
 
UC (66 points) leads GSU (35 points) on the men’s side heading into Day 3. On the women’s side UC (74 points) leads PPU (65 points), while WVWC (49.5 points) sits in third heading into the final day.
 
On Monday, the first champion crowned was in the Men’s Shot Put as UC’s Aiden Corbett took the event with a throw of 15.84 meters, while fellow Golden Eagle Jack Ingram placed 3rd overall. Glenville State’s Casey Mahoney placed 2nd overall. In the Women’s Shot Put, GSU’s Janae Scott won the event with a throw of 14.63 meters, her third time winning the championship and set a new meet record. Mallory McGinnis of West Virginia Wesleyan took 2nd place while Abby McKinney of UC placed 3rd overall.
 
Then in the Women’s Heptathlon Concord’s Cassidy Hammonds won it scoring 4,570 points, while Fenne Sienaert of Wheeling took 2nd, and UC’s Laura Delgado de Toores placed 3rd overall. Luke Davis of Charleston won the Men’s Decathlon scoring 5,890 points followed by Reese Burnside of West Liberty with 5,746, while fellow Hilltopper Seth Wiseman placed 3rd scoring 5,685 points.
 
While Point Park’s Dunya Van den tooren won the Women’s Long Jump with a jump of 5.70 meters, while fellow Pioneer Emma Roemer took 2nd place, and Laura Delgado de Torres of UC took 3rd place. In the Men’s Long Jump, PPU’s Akeem Mustapha won the event with a jump of 7.34 meters, with WVWC’s Royell Salmon placed 2nd, and WVSU’s Torrance Anthony finished in 3rd.
 
PPU’s Dunya Van den tooren then won the Women’s High Jump while Jessica Williams of WVWC and UC’s Adrienne Truman tied for second in the event.
 
Monday night ended with the 3000m Steeplechase. On the men’s side GSU’s nick Pitchford won the race with a time of 9:14.42, while WVWC’s Anthony Sanders took 2nd, and D&E’s Konnor Allison placed 3rd place. In the women’s race, Lindsey Dillon of WVWC won the race with a time of 11:14.09, while PPU’s Lotte Zethof took 2nd and UC’s Sara Campana placed 3rd overall.
 
The final day of the 2026 MEC Track & Field Championship get underway tomorrow, Tuesday, April 28th at 11am with the Men’s Discus Throw, Men’s Pole Vault, Women’s Triple Jump, and Men’s High Jump.
