BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Wheeling’s Luke Meyer and Point Park’s Trevor Jones have been named the MEC Baseball Co-Players of the Week while Frostburg State’s John Smith has been named the MEC Pitcher of the Week.
 
Meyer, a redshirt freshman from Trophy Club, Texas, led the Cardinal's offense on a big week as they took three of four from Frostburg State. The redshirt freshman finished 6-13 (.462) with two doubles a run scored and five RBI between the three games he played, driving in at least one run in each of the three Cardinal wins. His big day came in the second day of the series, where he drove in four of his teams six runs as they swept the Bobcats. He would open the scoring with a two-RBI double in the first game of the day and put Wheeling in the lead late with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth of game two.
 
Jones, a junior from St. Petersburg, Florida, batted .400 on the week with two doubles, one home run and six RBIs. His home run came against Cal U at PNC Park on Thursday afternoon. He had a .733 slugging percentage on week.
 
Smith, a junior from Parsonsburg, Maryland, earned a win in both of his appearances on the mound for FSU in the week. He entered as a reliever in the team's 3-2 win over No. 19 Seton Hill, throwing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He followed with a complete-game victory over Wheeling, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three batters. He finished with five strikeout, one earned run, and one walk.
