BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Frostburg State’s Jake Holler has been named the MEC Baseball Player of the Week while fellow Bobcat Zach Dodson has been named the MEC Pitcher of the Week.
Holler, a senior from Boonsboro, Maryland, helped lead the Bobcats to a 4-0 week, recording at least one hit and two RBI in each game. He batted .417 in the week with five hits including one double and one triple. In the second game against WV Wesleyan, hit went 2-for-3 at the plate with a career-high three runs scored as well as a pair of RBIs.
Dodson, a sophomore from New Market, Maryland, had a career day on the mound in FSU's 8-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. He threw a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out a career-high 15 batters in just seven innings. His strikeout total is the most by any Frostburg pitcher at the Division II level and is tied for the third-most by any D2 pitcher in a single game this season.
