BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Point Park’s Blake Ewing and Wheeling’s Gavin Millians have been named the MEC Baseball Co-Player of the Week while Wheeling’s Sebastian Khan has been named the MEC Pitcher of the Week.
Ewing, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, batted .500 (6-for-12) on the week with four home runs and nine RBIs. He had a 1.50 slugging percentage. He also scored seven times and was walked six times on the week. He homered in four-straight games over the weekend, including a grand slam on Sunday at Concord.
Millians, a senior from Bremen, Georgia, was an RBI machine for the Cardinals as they went 4-0 against West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. The senior finished the weekend 6-12 (.500) with 11 RBI and a run scored throughout the weekend. He started strong in the opener against West Virginia Wesleyan, where he went 2-4 with four RBI and continued the success from there. He would drive in at least two runs in each of the four games during the weekend, coming through when his team needed him. He accounted for 12 of the team's 34 runs during the weekend leading them to their first weekend sweep of the season.
Khan, a senior from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, continued his ace role for the Cardinals, leading them to a big game one win over West Virginia Wesleyan. The senior would throw a complete game allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits while walking one and striking out nine. Khan tied his career-high with nine strikeouts and lowered his season ERA to 1.93 through seven starts spanning 42.0 innings of work.
