Bostic, Varela-Payne Earn Baseball Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Concord’s Korbin Bostic has been named the MEC Baseball Player of the Week while fellow Mountain Lion Kaden Varela-Payne has been named the MEC Pitcher of the Week.
 
Bostic, a senior outfielder from Logan, West Virginia, batted an even .500 going 7-for-14 across five games for Concord as the Mountain Lions went 3-2 on the week. He recorded 14 RBIs as he slugged 1.071 with two doubles and two home runs. Bostic began the week by recording 10 RBIs against Bluefield State in a doubleheader as he collected six RBIs in game one and came back with four RBIs on a grand slam in game two. Bostic helped CU win two out of three games against Shepherd as he homered in the series opener and had at least one RBI in all three games. For the week, Bostic sported an on-base percentage of .667.
 
Varela-Payne, a sophomore from Raleigh, North Carolina, picked up his first win of the year as he tossed six strong innings versus Bluefield State Wednesday afternoon. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out five batters and walked two. This is his second time winning this honor in 2026.
