BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Fairmont State’s Montserrat Diaz is the MEC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, and Concord’s Maddie Loughborough is the MEC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Diaz, a senior from Costa Rica, took care of both of the Falcons’ goals in a 2-1 win against Point Park. She opened the scoring in the 37th minute, and then added an insurance goal in the 53rd minute. She finished with three shots, two on goal, and the game-winner.
Loughborough, a sophomore from England, has been on a torrid streak in the net. She made nine saves last week as Concord went 1-0-1 against the University of Charleston and West Virginia State. She stopped four shots against UC, including two in the final six minutes to preserve a 0-0 draw. She added another clean sheet in handing the Yellow Jackets their first MEC loss this season. Overall, Loughborough has not allowed a goal in 390 minutes, and has been in net for four consecutive shutouts by the Mountain Lions.
