BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
West Virginia State University swept the individual honors: Maria Alejandra Hernández Díaz is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Poppy Bastock is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Díaz, a junior from Colombia, scored in each of the Yellow Jackets’ wins: 2-0 at the University of Charleston and 4-0 at West Virginia Wesleyan. Díaz had the final goal in each of those victories, and added an assist on Loura Pouedras’ game-winner against the Bobcats.
Bastock, a senior from United Kingdom, picked up a pair of clean sheets against Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan. She has not allowed a goal in run of play in the MEC this season, and holds a streak of 240 minutes and 59 seconds without allowing a goal.
