Hernández Díaz, Stalhammar Earn MEC Weekly Women's Soccer Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

West Virginia State’s Maria Alejandra Hernández Díaz is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Fairmont State’s Filippa Stalhammar is the Defensive Player of the Week.

Hernández Díaz scored in both of the Yellow Jackets’ wins last week. She opened the scoring against Point Park with a goal in the 25th minute, and then notched an unassisted goal on a header in the 18th minute against West Liberty.

Stalhammar played a big role in the Falcons’ 2-0 week. In a 4-1 win against West Virginia Wesleyan, Stalhammar had a goal and an assist while playing 79 minutes. Then, she helped lead Fairmont State’s defensive effort in a clean sheet at Glenville State.
