Karam, Greco Named MEC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

West Virginia State’s Leila Karam is the MEC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Frostburg State’s Mary Greco is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Karam, a junior from Canada, scored five goals between a pair of wins last week. The forward tallied a pair of goals in the Yellow Jackets’ 4-0 win against Wheeling, and then posted a hat trick in a 3-2 win at Fairmont State. Karam’s five-goal week propelled her to the MEC lead in goals this season.

Greco, a senior from Millville, New Jersey, anchored the Frostburg State defense in wins at Glenville State and against Charleston. The Bobcats’ defense allowed one goal across the two matches, and Greco and the back line conceded only six shots on goal. Against UC, Greco tallied a goal and an assist, including the game-winner.
