BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Concord’s Kaden Swaim and West Virginia State’s Kyle Waters shared the MEC Player of the Week award while Broc Taylor of Concord and Brandon Morrison of West Virginia State were named co-MEC Pitchers of the Week.
 
Swaim, a junior catcher from Winston-Salen, N.C., batted .647 (11-for-17) with an eye-popping 1.294 slugging percentage to key a 4-1 week for the Mountain Lions. Swaim belted three home runs, added a pair of doubles and finished the week with 11 RBIs as Concord posted doubleheader sweeps of West Liberty and Wheeling.
 
Waters, a senior shortstop from Churchton, Md., put on a show at the plate and in the field as the Yellow Jackets won three of their four outings. Waters went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and several dazzling defensive plays to seal an 11-6 win against Point Park before belting a clutch two-run homer in the nightcap to lock up an 8-5 Concord win. He had a hit in both games of the Saturday twinbill against Salem as well.
 
Taylor, a freshman righthander from Stuart, Va., picked up his first career win with five shutout innings of one-hit ball in an 8-0 shutout of West Liberty. Taylor allowed just two Hilltopper baserunners in his five-inning stint.
 
A freshman righthander from Plantation, Fla., Morrison came out of the bullpen to close out three straight wins for the Yellow Jackets last week, picking up a pair of saves in the process. Morrison didn’t allow a run in 4.0 innings over three appearances, giving up just three hits and one walk to the 16 batters he faced.
