INDIANPOLIS — Mountain East Conference indoor track and field programs produced a trio of First Team All-American honorees at the 2025 NCAA Division II Championships, held this week at the Fall Creek Pavilion at Indiana State Fairgrounds.
University of Charleston sophomore Samuel Idiens finished third place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.40, a half second behind the top two finishers: Lake Erie’s Harry Ross-Hughes, and Indianapolis’ Josue Le Cadre. Idiens was previously honored as the 2025 MEC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
West Liberty’s Hunter Patterson also claimed All-American status after blazing 6.76 seconds in the 60-meter dash. Patterson, who was also an All-MEC second team running back in football, finished seventh in the event at nationals.
West Virginia State’s Candace Morris also earned First Team All-American honors in the 60-meter dash on the women’s side. The Yellow Jackets sophomore ran the 60 in 7.60 seconds after finishing sixth in the prelims, locking up the honor.
Because of the performances of Idiens and Patterson, UC finished tied for 30th at the men’s championships with 6 points, while West Liberty finished 46th. On the women’s side, WVSU finished tied for 52nd.
The MEC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held April 27-29 at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia.
