Charleston Sweeps Indoor Track & Field Championship

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –  The University of Charleston swept the 2026 Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship team titles Sunday night, the culmination of the two days of events here inside the Chris Cline Athletic Complex. It is the third consecutive year the Golden Eagles have swept the men’s and women’s championships.
 
The UC women finished atop the team points standings for the fifth consecutive year at the indoor meet, besting Point Park University. Charleston finished with 140 points, ahead of PPU (114 points), West Liberty (82 points), West Virginia Wesleyan (73.5 points), and Glenville State (68.5 points).
 
UC’s Colette Patti was named the MEC Women’s Track Athlete of the Year while fellow Golden Eagle Laura Delgado de Torres was Co-Most Outstanding Performer of the meet with Point Park’s Dunya Van den tooren. Nick Bias was the named the MEC Women’s Head Coach of the Year. West Virginia State's Temi Jaf-Ogunlayi was named the MEC Women's Freshman of the Year as she scored 16.5 points.
 
On the men’s side, Charleston won the Indoor Track & Field team championship for the fifth time in six years, and third in a row. UC scored 177 points followed by Point Park (83 points), Frostburg State (79 points), and West Liberty (73.5 points).
 
UC’s Mathew Meli was named the MEC Men’s Freshman and Track Athlete of the Year. Nick Bias was named the MEC Men’s Coach of the Year. Point Park’s Akeem Mustapha was named the MEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Year and was the MEC Men’s Most Outstanding Performer of the meet.
