BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winner of this week’s Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Charleston’s Luke Messinger has been named the MEC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week while Davis & Elkins’ Savanna Hardman has been named the MEC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week.
Messinger, a junior from Danville, Indiana, placed first in the Men Weight Throw Elite Throwers at the Marshall University Invite. He threw a mark of 18.35M tying Charleston’s indoor program record. At the same meet he also placed 6th in shot put with a mark of 15.04M.
Hardman, a senior from Lakewood, Washington, won the Jewel City Invite hosted by Marshall University in a NCAA D2 Provisional 3000m time of 9:45.88. The time is the top time in the MEC, Atlantic Region, and 23rd in the nation. It was also a school record and is the fastest 3000m time in MEC history.
