2026 MEC Track & Field Championships: Day 1 Recap

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After Saturday’s first day of the Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the University of Charleston men are atop of the leaderboard with 41 points, while West Virginia Wesleyan women are atop the women’s leaderboard also with 45 points. The final day of the two-day event, held inside the Chris Cline Athletic Complex on the campus of Marshall University concludes Sunday.
 
On the men’s side behind UC are, Frostburg State with 34 points, West Liberty in 3rd with 22 points, followed by Point Park with 21 points. In 5th sits West Virginia Wesleyan with 19 points, Glenville State has 18 points, followed by Davis & Elkins in 7th with 16 points. Wheeling with 11 points is in 8th, followed by Concord with 10 points, and West Virginia State has three points.
 
For the women, behind WVWC sits Point Park with 40 points, Charleston is in 3rd with 38 points. In 4th is West Liberty with 32 points, Glenville State has 30 points, and in 6th sits Davis & Elkins with 17 points. In 7th sits Frostburg State with 14 points, Concord has 13 points, followed by West Virginia State and Fairmont State with two points each.
 
Glenville State Janae Scott won the Shot Put with a throw of 14.86 meters while Aidan Corbett of Charleston won the men’s Shot Put with a throw of 16.86 meters.
 
Charleston’s Hugo Hewitt won the men’s 5,000 with a time of 14:32.70 while Glenville State’s Natalie Barr won the women’s 5,000 with a time of 17:16.63.
 
In the DMR, Charleston won the men’s race with a time of 10:04.62 which consisted of Caleb Gilbert, Carlos Gomez, Oscar Rayner, and Matthew Meli. Davis & Elkins won the women’s DMR with a new meet record time of 12:02.43 which consisted of Savanna Hardman, Cameryn Wheeler, Jenna Pelissier, and Lauren Twyman.
 
The final day of action gets underway Sunday morning.
