HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The University of Charleston captured both 2025 Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships team titles Monday night, the culmination of two days of events here inside the Chris Cline Athletic Complex. It is the second consecutive year the Golden Eagles have swept the men’s and women’s championships.
The UC women finished atop the team points standings for the fourth consecutive year at the indoor meet, this time besting MEC newcomer Point Park University. Charleston finished with 178.5 points, ahead of PPU (95 points), West Virginia Wesleyan (90 points), West Virginia State (68 points), and West Liberty (66 points).
Additionally, the Golden Eagles captured three top honors. Laura Delgado de Torres, a junior from Barcelona, Spain, took home the MEC Female Field Athlete of the Year honor, as well as the meet’s Most Valuable Performer award. The Field Athlete of the Year and the Most Valuable Performer honor are awarded to the competitor who compiles the most points.
UC’s Beth Sykes repeated as the 2025 MEC Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, per a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Point Park took home the other two top individual prizes, as Dunya Van den Tooren was named the MEC Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year, and head coach Tim Creamer was voted the MEC Coach of the Year by his colleagues.
On the men’s side, Charleston won the Indoor Track & Field team championship for the fourth time in five years, and the second year in a row. Sam Idiens, a sophomore from Christchurch, New Zealand, was voted the MEC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. His coach, Nick Bias, was picked as the MEC Coach of the Year.
Point Park’s Akeem Mustapha put together an impressive performance during the two days of competition, winning the High Jump and Long Jump en route to being named the MEC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and Most Valuable Performance honor.
Cabell Midland High School graduate Tristan Blatt, in a homecoming of sorts, was named the MEC Freshman of the Year.
