BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced that Glenville State has swept this week’s MEC Male and Female Track Athlete of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
The Pioneers’ Nick Pitchford was chosen as the MEC Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week with Glenville State teammate Natalie Barr earning MEC Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Pitchford, a freshman from Eleanor, W.Va., broke the Pioneers’ school records in the 800 and Mile Run at the Marshall Invitational. He crushed a 13-year-old record with a third-place finish in the 800, trailing only a pair of NCAA Division I runners in a time of 1:54.67. His record-setting time of 4:13.78 in the Mile Run was good for second place at the meet, finishing ahead of seven NCAA D1 runners.
A sophomore from Canvas, W.Va., Barr also had a record-setting meet at the Marshall Invitational, breaking the GSU school record in the 800 with a time of 2:15.56. Barr was the top MEC placer in the race, finishing fourth overall and beating 11 NCAA Division I runners to the line.
