CANTON, Ohio – Frostburg State senior Nate Canapp and Fairmont State senior Patrick Fubio starred on the final day of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. Saturday morning's prelims and the evening's finals capped the four-day event at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Canapp led the Bobcats, the highest-scoring MEC men's team at the event, with a runner-up finish in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 16:09.74, clearing the third-place finisher by 19 seconds. Fubio helped the Falcons, who had the second-most points of any MEC men's team, by finishing as the runner-up in the 200 Yard Backstroke.
This is the third consecutive year Frostburg State has scored the most points of any MEC team at the G-MAC/MEC Championships. Following Frostburg State (119.5) and Fairmont State (697) were Wheeling (577), Davis & Elkins (514), Salem (500), and West Virginia Wesleyan (228).
On the women's side, Frostburg State finished fourth overall and first among MEC teams with 974 points, besting fellow leaguemates Wheeling (565), Fairmont State (541), Davis & Elkins (377), Salem (288), and West Virginia Wesleyan (214).
The Mountain East Conference had a third-place finisher in men's and women's in the 400 Yard Freestyle. On the women's side, the quartet of Kendall Hooper, Lydia Nebiolo, Madison Hooper, and Genevieve Rippeon finished in 3:32.49 for Frostburg State. On the men's side, Frostburg State's foursome of Abe Bias, Jaden Tipton, Josh Horner, and Dylan King completed the race in 3:07.51.
