Swimming & Diving Championships: Day 1

CANTON, Ohio – Frostburg State's men's and women's teams finished high in the overall rankings after Day 1 of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. The four-day event is being held at C.T. Branin Natatorium, and is being hosted by Malone University. The G-MAC has four teams competing, while the MEC has six representatives. 

Frostburg State's women were the top scoring among MEC programs, followed by Wheeling, Fairmont State, and Salem. On the men's side, the Bobcats lead among MEC teams, followed by Wheeling, Salem, Davis & Elkins, and Fairmont State. 

Fairmont State's Men's 200 Medley Relay team finished third behind Findlay and Ashland of the G-MAC. 

For Frostburg State, Nate Canapp finished runner-up in the Men's 1000 Freestyle behind Findlay's Matteo Filippi. 

Lasse Schrieken of Davis & Elkins put together an impressive performance in the Men's 200 IM, finishing third behind Findlay and Ashland. Schrieken finished the race in 1:54.57, a hair ahead of Frostburg State's Dylan King (1:54.65). 

On the women's side, Wheeling's quartet of Lydie Sprecher, Jade Miller, Grace Moorley, and Sofia Castillo finished third in the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:39.74. In the same event on the men's side, Frostburg State's Abe Bias, Jaden Tipton, Mikkel Leblanc, and Tory Reynolds also finished third, barely edging out Wheeling. 

Thursday's prelims are set to begin at 10 a.m.
