Axe, McDougal Named MEC Volleyball Players of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Volleyball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

West Virginia Wesleyan’s Bhrooke Axe is the MEC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, and Wheeling’s Mara McDougal is the MEC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

Axe, a junior from York, Pennsylvania, led the Bobcats in wins against the University of Charleston and Glenville State. She finished with 11 kills in a five-set win against UC, and then had nine kills in a sweep of the Pioneers. Axe leads the MEC in hitting percentage and is second in kills per set this season.

She led Wheeling’s defensive effort in a four-set win against Fairmont State and a sweep of Point Park. McDougal had 31 digs across the two victories, including a career-high 20 digs in the win on the road against the Falcons.
