BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Volleyball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Concord’s Chloe Thompson and Fairmont State’s Joey Borelle share MEC Offensive Player of the Week honors after each had standout performances in undefeated weekends, while Borelle’s teammate, Josie Skinn, is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week after picking up Tournament MVP honors at the Fairmont State Classic.
Thompson helped the Mountain Lions to a 4-0 weekend in the Virginia State Classic, three of which were straight set victories. Thompson averaged 3.46 kills and 3.00 digs per set, notching a pair of double-doubles in the four-match weekend.
Borelle is the MEC’s early leader in multiple statistical categories. She totaled 48 kills — 16 in each of the Falcons’ three wins — while earning all-tournament honors. Borelle leads the conference in kills per set and points per set this season.
Skinn earned MVP accolades after a stellar performance in wins against Elizabeth City State, UVA Wise, and Slippery Rock. After a 19-dig performance in a 3-1 win against UVA Wise, Skinn followed that up with a game-high 27 digs in a 3-1 versus Slippery Rock. Skinn leads the MEC with 5.45 digs per set.
