Wheeling's Season Ends in Volleyball Regional Final

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. — Wheeling University’s volleyball season came to an end Saturday afternoon.
 
After winning the first set, 25-20, the Cardinals dropped three consecutive sets to host and top seed Gannon, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18. Wheeling fell to 27-11 after the defeat.
 
Wheeling advance to the regional championship at Hagerty Family Events Center as the three seed, and faced Gannon in a rematch of the 2021 Atlantic Regional final.
 
Riley Kindall led the way with 18 kills and 21 digs. Karly Niesen finished the season strong with a team-high 48 assists and a block. Katie Wilking added 15 kills. Samantha Comer tallied 12 kills. Mady Winters had nine kills and eight blocks.
 
The loss concludes another banner season for Wheeling, with won the MEC North Division title and made the finals of the MEC tournament. Olivia Batch captured MEC Freshman of the Year honors, and Kindall and Niesen were first team all-conference selections. Wilking and Winters were second team picks.
