NCAA Tournament Matchups for WVSU, Wheeling Announced

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Mountain East Conference tournament champion West Virginia State University and MEC finalist Wheeling University will represent the league in the NCAA Volleyball Championship Atlantic Region when the event commences next week.
 
The Yellow Jackets, who ended the Cardinals’ 11-year run as the recipient of the MEC’s automatic berth into the 64-team event, are seeded No. 5 in the eight-team region and will face fourth-seeded Clarion in the first round. Wheeling is the No. 3 seed in the region and will meet Pitt-Johnstown in the first round.
 
The Atlantic Region will be played Dec. 5-7 in Erie, Pennsylvania, on the campus of Gannon University. Gannon, which is making its 15th consecutive trip to the tournament, is the top seed in the region.
 
Gannon, which is 23-7 on the season, will face 30-win team Shaw. WVSU’s opponent, Clarion, is 15-11 and reached the NCAA quarterfinals in 2023. No. 2 seed Indiana University of Pennsylvania (23-8) will meet No. 7 Shepherd (24-7). Wheeling, which made the field as an at-large team, is 25-10 and making its 16th consecutive NCAA appearance.
