Borelle, Davis Capture MEC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Volleyball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Fairmont State’s Joey Borelle is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, and Concord’s Allie Davis is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Borelle, a senior from Norton, Ohio, was a Rattler Invitational All-Tournament team selection after helping the Falcons to a 3-2 week. Fairmont State’s only losses were to Central Oklahoma (9-0) and Florida Southern (5-1). Borelle, who shared MEC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 8, had 77 kills in five games, including 22 in a 3-1 win against Walsh.

Davis, a junior from Jonesborough, Tennessee, helped Concord to a perfect 3-0 week. In a four-set win against King, she racked up a career-best 33 digs, and then had 19 digs in each of the next two matches — wins against UVA Wise and Barton. Davis now leads the Mountain East Conference in digs per set at 5.48.
