Keni, Fortner Named MEC Volleyball Players of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Volleyball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

West Liberty’s Dakoda Keni is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, and Charleston Chloe Fortner is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Keni, a junior from Kahuku, Hawaii, recorded 117 assists in three wins by West Liberty last week. She had 47 assists in a sweep of Wheeling, which is an MEC best this season among three-set totals. The Hilltoppers swept Wheeling, Davis & Elkins, and West Virginia Wesleyan in succession last weekend to surge to the top of the MEC North Division standings.

Fortner, a junior from Burlington, Kentucky, helped Charleston to consecutive wins against West Virginia State, Frostburg State, and Fairmont State last week. Fortner had 20 digs and seven assists against the Yellow Jackets and tied a season-high with 25 digs in a sweep of Fairmont State. Fortner’s 25 digs in a three-set match are the third-most by an MEC player this season.
