BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
University of Charleston’s Martin Echarren has been named the MEC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, and Davis & Elkins’ Charlie Phillips is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Echarren, a freshman from Argentina, had a big offensive week in a pair of Golden Eagles victories. He tallied an assist and fired three shots in UC’s 2-1 win against Salem, and then recorded two goals, including the game-winner, a 4-0 win at Wheeling.
Phillips, a junior from England, led the Senators to a pair of wins: 4-0 versus Salem and 1-0 against Frostburg State. Phillips was in goal for both clean sheets, giving him three consecutive shutouts during Davis & Elkins’ four-game win streak.
