West Virginia State's Mike Huber earns All-America honors from the NCBWA

By James Garcia, WVSU Sports Information Director

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – West Virginia State baseball's Mike Huber was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) 2024 All-America Third Team on Thursday. Huber becomes the second All-American baseball player from WVSU in the past four years, following in the footsteps of now Assistant Coach Matt Harrison who earned an All-America Honorable Mention from the NCBWA in 2021.

The junior first baseman from Pittsburgh, Pa. had a breakout season in 2024 to garner top honors from the league, the region and now the nation. At the plate, Huber led the Mountain East Conference in slugging percentage (.850), home runs (18) and runs batted in (62) while also being the most walked batter in the MEC. In the field, he recorded more putouts (350) than anyone in the league while only committing a single error throughout the season.

Huber earned MEC Player of the Week honors once this year. He was an All-MEC First Team selection. Most recently, he was named First Team All-Atlantic Region by the NCBWA.

In addition to Huber’s All-America honors from the NCBWA, the Mountain East Conference also had 16 players recognized on the association’s All-Region teams (listed below).
