GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The University of Charleston wrapped up its second-consecutive Mountain East Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Tuesday afternoon at I.L. & Sue Morris Stadium in Glenville, scoring 217 points as a team over the three-day event. Wheeling took second in the team standings with 139 points, while Glenville State finished third (102).
Day three was highlight by two event championships for the University of Charleston, including the 4x100 relay with a time of 3:16.01, and Matthew Forrester won an individual event for the Golden Eagles with a time of 3:57.40 in the 1,500m. Charleston was also victorious in the men’s shot put, triple jump and discus on Monday.
Wheeling, the runner-up at the 2022 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship, finished strong with four individual event championships during Tuesday’s running events. The Cardinals were led by two meet record performances, including T.J. Tindal in the 400m (47.75) and Jabez Reeves in the 200m (21.58). Tindal’s time in the 400m also hit a NCAA provisional mark. Wheeling’s Jabez Reeves also finished first in the 100m and Wheeling’s time of 41.36 in the 4x100m relay also led the field at the championship. Concord also had a big day with two event championships on Tuesday.
Following the final day of the Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the MEC also announced its major award winners for the 2022 season. Concord’s Isaac Prather was recognized as the most outstanding performer of the championship meet with 30 points, and was also voted the Track Athlete of the Year by the league’s coaches. Prather won a trio of events at this week’s championship, including a meet record and NCAA provisional time of 9:01.58 in the 3,000m steeplechase. He also turned in the fastest time in the 5,000m and 10,000m events.
West Liberty’s Adam O’Donnell was voted the MEC Field Athlete of the Year after winning MEC Championship in the decathlon on Sunday evening and Monday morning. Charleston’s Noah Revels was also honored as the league’s top freshman. He finished second in the men’s 1500m and placed fifth in the 800m at this week’s championship.
Charleston’s Nick Bias swept the 2022 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field coach of the year awards.
