BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference today announced its 2022 postseason award winners and all-conference teams following a vote of the league’s head coaches. Notre Dame College shortstop Ben Ross highlighted the MEC major awards as the 2022 Player of the Year, while Glenville State’s Adam Riggleman was named the league’s top pitcher.
The MEC postseason honors continued with Charleston’s Kyle West earning freshman of the year accolades. First-year Fairmont State head coach Matt Yurish was voted the MEC Coach of the Year.
Ross, a sophomore from Springfield, Ohio, batted .393 with 14 home runs, 19 doubles and 57 runs batted-in this season. He tallied 70 hits on the season and recorded a .758 slugging percentage. Ross also scored 53 runs, recorded 15 stolen bases and had a .455 on-base percentage. He totaled 35 extra-base hits on the year.
Riggleman, a senior from Beverly, W.Va., recorded a 10-2 record and 2.71 ERA to lead the Glenville State pitching staff this spring. Riggleman made 12 starts on the season and pitched four complete games and had a shutout. In 73.0 total innings pitched, Riggleman allowed just 22 earned runs and racked up 95 strikeouts. He had a 1.16 WHIP and allowed opposing batters to hit just .236 against him during 2022.
West, a freshman infielder from Hedgesville, W.Va., batted .344 with 14 doubles, six triples and eight home runs during the 2022 season. He totaled 52 hits on the season and drove in 42 runs at the plate. He also finished the season with a .675 slugging percentage and .420 on-base percentage. As a base runner he scored 36 runs and recorded 16 stolen bases. West was also a second team All-MEC selection at first base.
Yurish, Fairmont State’s first year head coach, was named the 2022 MEC Coach of the Year after leading the Falcons to a 27-20 overall record and a share of the MEC Northern Division Title this season. The Falcons went 22-10 in conference play. Yurish helped the Falcons return to the postseason for the first time since 2019 as the second seed in the North Division during this weekend’s MEC Baseball Tournament.
