HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
-- UNC Pembroke won the 2020 Mountain East Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship, while the University of Charleston took the title on the men's side.

In the women's competition, the Braves finished with 173 points, ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan's total of 111.5 points. Wheeling was third (74), followed by Glenville State (70), Charleston (63.5), Davis & Elkins (63.0), West Liberty (52), Concord (34) and Frostburg State.

Glenville State's Victoria Lewis was the championship's Most Outstanding Performer racking up 24.25 points over the two days. Concord's Gretchen Mills was voted as the Freshman of the Year, Wheeling's Liz Fleming was voted as the Field Athlete of the Year and UNC Pembroke's Jerman Jepleting was selected as the Track Athlete of the Year. Braves head coach Dr. Peter Ormsby was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.

In the men's competition, Charleston pulled away from UNC Pembroke in the final events and finished with 174 points compared to 151 for the Braves. West Liberty took third with 75 points, followed by Frostburg State (64), Wheeling (54), Glenville State (45.5), West Virginia Wesleyan (39.5), Davis & Elkins (30) and Concord (28).

UNC Pembroke's Joshua Chepkesir won three events over two days and earned the Most Outstanding Performer and was also named the league's Track Athlete of the Year. Charleston's Chris Barbera was the Freshman of the Year, and Frostburg State's John Kerns was tabbed as the Field Athlete of the Year. UC head coach Nick Bias was voted by his peers as the Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Eagles to the title. 

In individual competition on the women's side, Gigi Ingvadottir from Charleston won the triple jump with a mark of 11.05 meters. Wheeling's Fleming won her second throwing event of the weekend with a provisional throw of 14.31 meters in the shot put. WU's Emmarie Foote won the 200 meters with a time of 25.33.

UNC Pembroke notched a win in the high jump as Aly Hudspeth jumped 1.62 meters for the win. Glenville State's Lewis stopped the clock at 9.09 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles, and UC's Tricht Jocelyn had an NCAA provo time in the open 60 meters with a time of 7.66.

UNC Pembroke's Jepleting won the mile (5:15.59) and the 800 (2:18.37).

Davis & Elkins freshman Svea Timm won the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:29.59. Teammate Roxine Chambers picked up a win in the 400 with a time of 58.02. The Senators were also victorious in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:54.76.

On the men's side, West Liberty's Adam O'Donnell opened the day by finishing off the heptathlon victorious totaling a NCAA provisional mark with 4,785 points. Teammate Isaiah Robinson also had a provisional mark in the triple jump winning the event with a leap of 14.88. WLU's Tavian Richardson surged on the back stretch and held on to win in the 800 with a time of 1:53.75.

Charleston's Nathan Stout got a win in the shot put with a throw of 16.62 meters. The Golden Eagles also had individual wins in the 60 and 200 meters as Aaron Banks doubled up with wins in those events. He had provisional times in both posting 6.78 in the 60 and 21.66 in the 200. Teammate Michael Strachan won the 400 with a NCAA provo time of 47.99. UC also would go on to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:18.66

UNC Pemrboke's B.J. Thompson was victorious in the high jump with a career-best 2.0 meters. The Braves also had a win in the 60-meter hurdles as Jathan Deberry just edged Davis & Elkins' Dalton Irvine in a photo finish. 

Chepkesir closed out competitive distance races by winning the mile (4:12.62) and the 3,000 (8:17.86).
