BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan won its fourth-straight Mountain East Conference Men’s Track & Field Championship on Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats piled up 212 points to claim the title. The University of Charleston was second with 154 points, followed by Concord in third with 135 points. Wheeling Jesuit was fourth (114), followed by Glenville State (94), Notre Dame (77) and West Liberty (29).
Concord’s Jonathan Gore was the Most Valuable Performer at the championship winning the 100 meters and finishing second in the 200 meters and the long jump.
Charleston’s Zack Marcum was voted as the MEC’s Track Athlete of the Year. Marcum finished second in the 200 meters and won the 400 at the championship, and was also a member of the team’s championship-winning 4x400 meter relay.
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Dylan Rippeto was selected as the league’s Field Athlete of the Year. Rippeto won the discus and shot put, and was fifth in the hammer over the weekend.
Notre Dame College’s Christian Strozier was chosen as the conference’s Freshman of the Year.
Concord’s Mike Cox was voted as the league’s Coach of the Year.
Wheeling Jesuit’s Trey Tucker won the 100 meters and finished third in the 200 meters. The University of Charleston’s Liam Mumford doubled winning the 800 and 1500. Matt Dearth of West Virginia Wesleyan was victorious in the 5,000 meters. The pole vault, which was suspended on Friday, concluded on Sunday with Ryan Gregory coming away victorious.
In the relays, Wheeling Jesuit won the 4x100 and the Golden Eagles won the 4x400.
