FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Cross Country Runner of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Matthew Meli and Violet Wall are this week's men's and women's MEC Cross Country honorees. 

Meli, a freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, won the 5k by over 20 seconds, with a time of 14:18. This time set a new course record by over one minute. Meli led the Golden Eagles to a first place victory at the Marshall Invite. 

Wall, a sophomore from Pearisburg, Virginia, placed 15th with a time of 17:08 on a 4,400-meter course. Wall was the second non-Division I finisher at Virginia Tech’s Hokie Invite. Wall helped the Mountain Lions earn a fourth-place team finish.
