UC, Davis & Elkins Complete Season at NCAA DII Men's Cross Country Championships

KENOSHA, Wisc. — The University of Charleston and Davis & Elkins College each finished in the top 30 at the NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country Championships. The 10,000-meter race was held Saturday afternoon at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Charleston finished 24th in team points, while Davis & Elkins placed 30th. Hugo Hewitt, a junior from England, led UC and was the top overall finisher among Mountain East Conference student-athletes, finishing 76th with a time of 31:28. Hewitt’s teammate, Thomas Crockett, was 88th overall, and Davis & Elkins’ Christopher Lucas placed 99th.

The Golden Eagles qualified their entire team after placing second at the Atlantic Regional. In addition to Hewitt and Crockett, Jules Geffroy-Remot (No. 114), Harry Witt (No. 121), and Caleb Gilbert (No. 183) were top-five finishers for UC. Hewitt capped a season in which he was named the MEC Runner of the Year, and Witt was the league’s Freshman of the Year.

Following Lucas, the Senators’ top-five finishers were Cooper Gibson (No. 131), Konnor Allison (No. 159), Fletcher Van Heuven (No. 167), and Slate Swiger (No. 181).

Adams State senior Kidus Begashaw won the NCAA DII individual title by three seconds. Wingate was the team champion with five competitors finishing in the top 25.
