KENOSHA, Wisc. — Three Mountain East Conference programs and one individual student-athlete from the league will compete in Saturday’s 2025 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championship.
Davis & Elkins College and the University of Charleston are sending their entire men’s teams to the 10,000-meter event, while Davis & Elkins’ women’s team and Glenville State’s Natalie Barr will represent the MEC in the 6,000-meter race. Both events will be held at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The women’s race is set to begin at 11 a.m., while the men will follow at 12:15 p.m.
UC qualified its entire men’s team by finishing second at the Atlantic Regional, while the Senators qualified with a third-place finish. On the women’s side, Davis & Elkins captured the Atlantic Region title, and Barr — an All-MEC runner and the 2025 Atlantic Region Runner of the Year — vaulted to the top of the leaderboard to claim first place and the automatic entry into the national race.
Along with Barr, Davis & Elkins’ Lauren Twyman, Savanna Hardman, and Rebecca Tellez recorded top-10 finishes in the Atlantic Regional and will lead the Senators into Saturday morning’s race. Twyman recorded a top-100 finish at DII nationals a year ago.
The Davis & Elkins men’s team returns after finishing 27th at the 2024 DII Nationals. The Senators won the MEC and Atlantic Regional title in 2024 before recording the top-30 nationally. This year, UC won the MEC Championship, with the top four finishers, and then had three top-10 finishes at the 2025 Atlantic Regional to finish one spot ahead of Davis & Elkins. MEC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year, Hugo Hewitt, led Charleston at this year’s Atlantic Regional with a seventh-place finish.
The top three teams from each regional meet automatically advanced to the championship (24 teams total). All competitors who finished in the top five at the regional meet and are not part of a qualifying team also advanced to the NCAA Championships.
