FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Davis & Elkins’s forward Johan Magaña was selected as the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Shawnee State’s goalkeeper Eduardo Peña was named the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Magaña, a graduate student from Fellsmere, Florida, tallied seven points in the Senators’ 2-0 win over Shawnee State and 5-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sept. 23 and 26, respectively. The forward tallied three goals and an assist throughout the week, aiding Davis & Elkins’ rise to No. 12 nationally in the NCAA Division II United Soccer Coaches Rankings. With the two wins, the Senators remain undefeated with a record of 7-0-1 and 5-0-1.

Peña, a sophomore from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, earned his second shutout of the season in the Bears’ 1-0 win over West Liberty on Sept. 27. The goalkeeper played a full 90 minutes, recording four saves.
