FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Charleston’s forward Martin Echarren was selected as the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Wheeling’s goalkeeper Alberto Madail was named the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Echarren, a sophomore from Tandil, Argentina led the league in goals this week, scoring three during the Golden Eagles’ 10-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sept. 16. Additionally, the forward added an assist, totaling seven points during the contest. 

Medail, a freshman from Maturin, Monagas, Venezuela tied a career high with 10 saves on 12 shots he faced against Davis & Elkins on Sept. 16. The goalkeeper added another save against Seton Hill in the Cardinals’ 5-1 win on Sept. 19, earning a .846 save percentage in the pair of matches.
