2026 MEC Baseball Tournament: Day 2 Recap

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Day 2 of the 2026 MEC Baseball Tournament is in the books as Frostburg State and  earned victories.
 
Game 3 - #2N Frostburg State def. #2S Charleston, 12-6
 
Charleston would strike first in the top of the second inning scoring five runs on hits as they led Frostburg State, 5-0.
 
UC then added another run in the top of the third, this time coming from three hits as they led the Bobcats, 6-0.
 
Frostburg State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third off of one hit as they pulled within five, 6-1.
 
The Bobcats took the lead, 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth as Ryan Bouma homered to left field as Frostburg State scored six runs on four hits in the inning.
 
Frostburg State’s Jackson Schalick then hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth as the Bobcats held a 10-6 lead over Charleston.
 
Manny Hall then homered to left field for the Bobcats in the bottom of the seventh as Frostburg State held a 11-6 lead over the Golden Eagles heading into the eighth inning.
 
Frostburg State added another run in the bottom of the eighth as they went on to defeat Charleston, 12-6.
 
Frostburg State finished with 12 hits and an error while Charleston tallied 11 hits.
 
Jackson Schalick went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a home run for the Bobcats while Ryan Bouma went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and home run.
 
Kamden Sowers picked up the win on the mound as he went 3.1 innings allowing one run on one hit with four strike outs.
 
Trent Dosenbach went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Abe Fenwick went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
Charleston will take on Glenville State Friday, May 8th at 12 p.m. while Frostburg State will battle Point Park following that game scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
 
Game 4 - #1S Concord def. #1N Wheeling, 8-4
 
Wheeling would get on the board first in the top of the second inning scoring three runs on four hits leading Concord, 3-0.
 
The Mountain Lions would answer back in the bottom of the second scoring five runs on three hits as they took a 5-3 lead over the Cardinals.
 
Concord added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring one run on one hit as they held the 6-3 lead over Wheeling. The Cardinals then cut Concord’s led to two as they scored one run in the top of the fifth, as they now trailed 6-4.
 
Concord added another two runs in the bottom of the fifth as they went on and defeated the Wheeling Cardinals, 8-4.
 
Tyson Burke went 3-for-4 with three RBIs Nick DiSanti went 1-for-5 with two RBIs. Concord’s Kaden Varela-Payne pitched a complete game for the Mountain Lions allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out five batters.
 
Wheeling’s Caid Heflin went two-for-four with two RBIs. Mason Fenwick pitched 1.2 innings in the loss allowing two earned runs with one strike out. Wheeling had five different pitchers appear in the contest.

3:30 p.m. – Game 6: #3N Point Park vs. #2N Frostburg State
7 p.m. – Game 7: LG5 vs. #1S Concord
