2026 MEC Baseball Tournament: Day 1 Recap

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Day 1 of the 2026 MEC Baseball Tournament got started on Wednesday afternoon from GoMart Ballpark in Charleston, West Virginia as Glenville State and Point Park secured victories.
 
Game 1 - #3S Glenville State def. #1N Wheeling, 14-8
 
Glenville State scored four runs in the top of the first inning and added another in the second as the Pioneers jumped out to a 5-1 early lead over the No. 1 seed in the north the Wheeling Cardinals.
 
The Pioneers then added another three runs in the top of the third as they took an 8-1 lead. Wheeling would answer back in the bottom of the fifth as they scored three runs of their own to pull within four, 8-4.
 
Glenville State bats continued to be hot as they busted the game wide open scoring five runs to take a 13-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Cardinals would answer in the bottom of the seventh scoring three runs as they trailed, 13-7.
 
The Pioneers added one run in the top of the eighth as they held on and defeated the Cardinal. 14-7.
 
Glenville State finished with 14 hits and committed three errors while Wheeling had 11 hits and an error.
 
GSU’s Adam Bright went 2-for-5 with three RBIs while Ashton Crace went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. The Pioneers had six total players record an RBI in the contest.
 
Zach Dellerman picked up the win on the mound for GSU pitching 5.0 innings allowing seven hits, two earned runs, while striking out five batters.
 
Chris Alvarez went 1-for-4 with two RBIs for Wheeling. The Cardinals had six players record an RBI. Sebastian Khan pitched 2.1 innings allowing seven earned runs, seven hits, and striking out two batters.
 
Game 2 - #3N Point Park def. #2S Concord, 6-5
 
Point Park would strike first in the top of the fourth when Blake Ewing homered to right field as they led Concord, 1-0.
 
Concord would answer in the bottom of the fifth as Tyson Burke hit a two-run homer to left field as the Mountain Lions took a 2-1 lead.
Concord would add another run in the bottom of the seventh as they went up, 3-1.
 
Point Park then took the lead in the top of the eighth as they scored four runs on hits as they now led, 5-3 over Concord.
 
Concord then tied it up in the bottom of the eighth at 5-5, however, Point Park answered in the top of the ninth with a single to right field by Trevor Jones as Felix Rodriguez crossed the plate making it 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
 
PPU’s Harold Boyce then retired three straight as the Pioneers defeated the Mountain Lions, 6-5.
 
Point Park finished with 11 hits and an error while Concord tallied 10 hits in the ball game.
 
Blake Ewing went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and home run while Trevor Jones went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the win. Harold Boyce pocked up the win on the mound allowing no runs while striking out one batter.
 
For Concord, Jared Lavergne went 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Tyson Burke went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run.

Noon - Game 3 - #2N Frostburg State vs. #2S Charleston
3:30 p.m. – Game 4 - #1N Wheeling vs. #1S Concord
