SHIPPENSBURG, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers (48-15) defeated the University of Charleston Golden Eagles (47-17) twice on Saturday to win the NCAA DII Softball Atlantic Regional.
Glenville State now advances to the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional on May 21
st and 22
nd and will take on Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania at North Campus Softball Field.
No. 4 Glenville State def. No. 5 Charleston, 5-4
Glenville State defeated Charleston, 5-4, to force a second game on Saturday from Robb Field in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania at the NCAA DII Softball Atlantic Regional.
Game one was scoreless up until the bottom of the fourth as Glenville State scored when Shelby McDan hit an RBI single through the left side as Kylee Goodma crossed the plate, as the Pioneers led 1-0.
GSU added another two runs in the fifth off two hits as they led the Golden Eagles, 3-0.
Charleston would get on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Kayla Moran hit an RBI single to right field scoring Bianca Polistina. Then Danielle Pici hit a sac fly out to center field as Taylor Hodson scored, as they trailed 3-2.
The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs on three hits as they now held a 5-2 lead. UC tried to rally in the seventh and managed two runs, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to GSU, 5-4.
GSU and UC both tallied nine hits each in the contest while UC committed three errors. The Pioneers committed one error in the game.
GSU’s Kylee Goodman went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Shelby McDaniels, Zailees Seda, Emma McLean, and Alexis Harward each recorded an RBI in the contest. Meghan Stump pitched the complete game for GSU allowing nine hits, four earned runs, and struck out three batters.
UC’s Taylor Hodson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Kayla Moran and Danielle Pici each had an RBI. Addison Mass pitched six innings allowing nine hits and five earned runs.
No. 4 Glenville State def. No. 5 Charleston, 10-4
In game two, Glenville State recorded 12 hits as they defeated Charleston 10-7 and won the NCAA DII Softball Atlantic Regional on Saturday. UC also had 12 hits in the contest while both teams committed an error.
Glenville State struck first in the top of the first as they had three hits scoring three runs as they led, 3-0. UC would answer in the bottom of the first scoring one run on one hit as they pulled with two, 3-1.
In the top of the second, GSU’s Shelby McDan hit an RBI single to left scoring Addie Hicks. Then later, Lillian Burn had an RBI single up the middle as Shelby McDan crossed the plate as gave the Pioneers a 5-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second, UC’s Ella Zucchero reached on a fielder’s choice as she recorded an RBI as Caraline Dunn scored as they now trailed, 5-2.
The Pioneers added another two runs on two hits in the top of the third as they now held a 7-2 lead. Then in the fourth, GSU had two hits and scored another two runs as they now led UC, 9-2.
Heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Pioneers held a 10-2 lead, UC would record four hits and score two runs as they trailed, 10-4.
In the bottom of the seventh with GSU still leading 10-4, the Golden Eagles would try and mount a comeback, and score three runs on four hits, but it wouldn’t be enough. The Pioneers held on to defeat Charleston, 10-7 and win the 2026 NCAA DII Softball Atlantic Regional.
Hannah Howe went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Shelby McDaniels went 3-for-5 with an RBI. GSU had eight players record an RBI in the win. Kylie Burdick earned the win on the mound pitching 4.1 innings allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and had one strike out.
UC’s Taylor Hodson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Kayla Moran went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Cali Masters pitched 3.2 innings allowing seven hits, five earned runs, and one strike out.
