SALEM, Va. - The 2026 Mountain East Conference Softball Tournament MVP Delaney Warnick hit six home runs and had 18 RBIs over seven games to power the Glenville State Pioneers to the program’s first-ever MEC Tournament Championship. GSU beat the University of Charleston twice on Saturday to take home the title.
Game 14: #2S Glenville State 4, #1S Charleston 3
Glenville State used a seventh inning two-run home run from Warnick to top the Golden Eagles, 4-3, and force a winner take-all game 15.
Following a scoreless first two innings, the Pioneers put two runs on the board on RBI singles from Warnick and Kylee Goodman. The Golden Eagles then rallied with three RBI doubles in the bottom of the 5th to gain their first lead of the afternoon. Down to their final outs, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player smacked an opposite field two-run home run to give Glenville State a late lead.
Meghan Stump, who pitched 2.1 innings of relief for last year’s MEC Coach of the Year Sara Scoone, sat the Golden Eagles down in order in the bottom of the 7th to secure the win. Warnick went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead Glenville State while three different Golden Eagles produced an RBI in the defeat.
Game 15: #2S Glenville 10, #1S Charleston 4
Hannah Howe produced three extra base hits and Delaney Warnick mashed her sixth home run of the tournament as the Pioneers completed the 2026 MEC Tournament as champions.
Kylee Goodman and Zailees Seda produced RBIs in the top half of the first, but Charleston answered back quickly with a RBIs from Taylor Hodson and Danielle Pici. Warnick homered in the top half of the 2nd inning before Charleston once again went toe-to-toe with two runs of their own off the bat of Bianca Polistina.
Glenville State grew an advantage in the fifth inning when Howe added two more RBIs to her total with a double and Emma McLean brought her around to score on another double, making it 8-4. Howe put the finishing touches on the Pioneers 10-run performance with a two-run HR in the top of the 7th.
Maci Boggess, Meghan Stump and Kylie Burdick held the Golden Eagle bats at bay with Stump completing the tournament with 13.2 innings of no earned runs allowed. Seven different Charleston batters had a hit and Polistina led the team with two RBIs.
