AZUSA, Calif. - The fourth-seeded Fairmont State University acrobatics & tumbling team advanced to the 2026 NCATA Semifinals after defeating the fifth-seeded Augustana University Thursday in the quaterfinals by a final of 254.950-250.800.
The Falcons which led most of the way in the meet, got started in the Compulsory Event as they took took the initial lead with a 35.800 to 35.175. The pyramid and toss heats were the best performing for the Falcons with scores of 9.650 and 9.600.
in the Acro Event, the Falcons extended their lead slightly with a 27.850 to a 27.750. The team's 7-element heat posted a score of 9.575 with a start value of 10.
Fairmont State then carried the momentum into the final event of the first half, the Pyramid Event. The Falcons posted a three-heat total of 29.075, just edging out the Vikings by .175. The open pyramid heat was the highest scoring of the event with a 9.825 for FSU. At the half, Fairmont State led 92.725 to 91.825.
At halftime in the Toss Event, the Falcons scored 27.925 while the Vikings posted a 26.900. Fairmont State outscored Augustana in two of the three heats as the Falcons' 450 Salto Toss was judged to be a 9.475. In the Tumbling Event, the Vikings got the slight upper hand with a 52.625 as the Falcons earned a total of 52.500. The Falcons scored 9.700 in the aerial pass and a 9.600 in the open pass. Going into the Team Event, Fairmont State still held a 173.150-171.350 advantage.
In the final event, the Team Event, the Vikings posted a 79.450. The bar was set for the Falcons and they did not disappoint with an 81.800, clinching the victory by 4.150.
Fairmont State will now face the first-seeded Baylor University Bears in the semifinals on Friday, April 24. The meet will start at 10:00 p.m. EDT / 7:00 p.m. PDT.
