BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Softball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Concord’s Hannah Niten has been named the MEC Softball Player of the week while Charleston’s Addison Mass has been named the MEC Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Niten, a freshman from High Point, North Carolina, batted .438 (7-for-16) in a 4-2 week for the Mountain Lions. She hit a pair of home runs and drove seven runs while slugging .875 in six games. Niten hit a three-run home run in a 5-3 win over Glenville State Wednesday afternoon. Against West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon, she was 5-for-6 in two games. In game one, Niten was 3-for-3 and finished a triple shy of the cycle. She added two RBI. She was 2-for-3 in an 11-2 game two victory over the Bobcats.
Mass, a senior from Ringwood, Illinois, picked up four wins on the mound. She had 14 strikeouts in two games against West Virginia State, with 12 strikeouts coming in game one against the Yellow Jackets. She then threw a no-hitter in game one against Wheeling with seven strikeouts. And against West Liberty she had a one-hitter with 13 strike outs. Overall, she had 34 strikeouts in four appearances.
