Zapach, Hintz Earn MEC Softball Weekly Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Softball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Davis & Elkins’ Ashlyn Zapach has been named the MEC Softball Player of the week while Concord’s Reghan Hintz has been named the MEC Softball Pitcher of the Week.
 
Zapach, a senior from Albuquerque, New Mexico, led the Senators offensively across four games, posting multiple strong performances at the plate. She opened the week with a home run and RBI against Shepherd before going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk against Bloomsburg. In Davis & Elkins’ 8–3 win over California (Pa.), Zapach went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored, and she capped the stretch with a perfect 3-for-3 performance with a walk, two singles, a double, two RBIs and a run scored in a 7–2 win over Bluefield State.
 
Hintz, a sophomore from Melfa, Virginia, pitched 8.1 innings over the weekend as she made three appearances. She only allowed one earned run and struck out 15. Hintz earned her first save of the year in a 6-2 win over Mansfield, pitching the final three innings and striking out five.
