Zucchero, Hintz Named MEC Softball Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Softball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Charleston’s Ella Zucchero has been named the MEC Softball Player of the week while Concord’s Reghan Hintz has been named the MEC Softball Pitcher of the Week.
 
Zucchero, a sophomore infielder from Acton, Ontario, helped the Golden Eagles go 4-1 this week with wins over Edinboro and Shepherd. In the five contests she had a .467 batting average and a .733 slugging percentage. Zucchero tallied seven hits and four RBIs with 15 plate appearances.
 
Hintz, a sophomore from Melfa, Virginia, tossed two complete games over the weekend as she improved to 3-2 in the circle. She limited Shepherd to two runs and nine hits over 14 innings while striking a combined 12 batters. Hintz began the weekend by holding Shepherd to two runs on four hits as she tied a career high with nine strikeouts. She came back on Saturday with her first career complete-game shutout as she tossed a five-shit shutout versus SU.
