GLENVILLE, W.Va. — The 2026 Mountain East Conference Wrestling Championship will take place Saturday, Jan. 31, on the campus of Glenville State University. The one-day event is set to begin at 10 a.m. inside the Waco Center.
Host Glenville State, which is ranked No. 9 nationally by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), will attempt to three-peat as MEC champions. The Pioneers won the team title in 2024 and 2025, the program’s first two conference championships. Glenville State has the top seeded wrestling in five of the 10 weight classes. Last season, the Pioneers qualified a wrestling in all 10 MEC championship matches, winning six individual titles.
Frostburg State enters the MEC championship tied for No. 19 in the NWCA rankings, while fellow MEC programs Fairmont State, West Liberty, and Wheeling are receiving votes in the national poll.
Here is a breakdown of what to look for in each weight class:
125 – Glenville State’s Colton Drousias and West Liberty’s Logan Davis are the top two seeds. Drousias, who is ranked No. 9 nationally, is the defending champion in the class after defeating Davis in the 2025 final.
133 – Collegiate newcomer Tanner Halling is the No. 1 seed in this bracket. The Frostburg State freshman is ranked No. 2 nationally in the NWCA poll, the only MEC wrestler in the top 15.
141 – Glenville State’s Ethan Hardy is the top overall seed as the nation’s No. 1-ranked wrestler in this weight class. Hardy will be challenged by Fairmont State’s Colton Stoneking, who is ranked No. 6 nationally and is the reigning MEC Wrestler of the Year.
149 – Frostburg State’s Gage Heilbrun and West Liberty’s Tony Wood are the top two seeds in this bracket. Heilbrun was an honorable mention All-MEC finisher after the 2025 conference championship.
157 – West Liberty’s Nico Taddy and Glenville State’s Jimmie Bailes are the top two seeds at 157 pounds. Taddy is ranked No. 9 nationally in the class, according to the NWCA poll.
165 – West Liberty’s Jordan Watters is the top overall seed, with Salem’s Seth Thomas seeded No. 2 in the class. Watters concluded the regular season strong by earning MEC Wrestler of the Week honors this week.
174 – Carter Winegardner of West Liberty is the favorite at 174 pounds, followed by second-seeded Josh Woyan of Fairmont State. Winegardner finished as the 2025 runner-up after reaching the final in this class.
184 – Glenville State’s Max Borton is the No. 1 seed in a division previously dominated by former West Liberty wrestler Ty McGeary, a three-time national champion and four-time MEC title-holder.
197 – Nick Johnson is the top overall seed for the host Pioneers. Johnson is ranked No. 2 nationally, is the defending MEC champion in this weight class, and is coming off a season in which he won the Region 3 title and reached the national semifinals.
285 – Glenville State’s Colby Whitehall is the No. 1 seed in the heavyweight division, ahead of Wheeling’s Gavin Harper and Frostburg State’s Gavin Bage. Whitehall is ranked No. 8 nationally, while Harper is No. 13.
