BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winner of this week’s Wrestler of the Week. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.
West Liberty’s Jordan Watters and Point Park’s Aiden Burford have been named the MEC Co-Wrestlers of the Week.
Watters, a graduate from Imperial, Pennsylvania, won both matches of the Hilltoppers tri-meet with East Stroudsburg and Gannon at 165. Watters defeated Joshua Montesino of ESU with a fall at 2:47, and defeated Grant MacKay of GU (SV-1 5-2). McKay was ranked No.3 in the country at 165.
Burford, a freshman from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, dropped his first-round bout by a 9-7 decision, but then Burford won his next four matches to advance to the third-place match in the 141 bracket at Saturday's Jayhawk Open hosted in Jamestown. Burford's four-consecutive wins featured three extra-point victories – one by fall and two by major decision.
