Bridgeport, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Swimmer of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Frostburg State’s Bradin Norris was named the MEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week while Fairmont State’s Mia Abruzzino was named the MEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
Norris, a sophomore from Lutherville, Maryland, won three total events at the CalU Winter Invite and Vulcan Frenzy, helping the team to a first-place finish in both competitions. He was victorious in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:02.16, the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.52, and the 1,650 free with a time of 17:34.91, while helping the 400 free relay team to a second-place finish in with a time of 3:30.16.
Abruzzino, a senior from Fairmont, West Virginia, won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and was part of the pool record setting 200 freestyle relay in her final dual home dual meet. The time of 1:59.07 in the 200 freestyle was good for Abruzzino's first win of the meet. Her second win came in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.23. In the 200-freestyle relay, she split 24.89 to help her team to a new Mahaney Natatorium record time of 1:39.70, nearly a second faster than the previous record.
