BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Swimmer of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Davis & Elkins’ Jan Spehar is the MEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Fairmont State’s Delaney Householder is the MEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week. This is Householder’s third weekly honor of the season.
Spehar, a freshman from Croatia, helped the Senators to a first-place finish at the Corbiere-Merion Invitational with two individual wins — in the 100 free and 200 free — and a pair of school records. Spehar’s time of 45.54 in the free is a school mark, as is his 100 back leadoff split. Both are also the top times in the MEC this season. Spehar helped Davis & Elkins to victories in the 400 free relay, 800 free relay, and 400 medley relay, finishing the meet with five total wins.
Householder, a sophomore from Morgantown, West Virginia, also set a pair of program records last week: as part of the 200 free relay, and in the 200 back. At the Malone Invitational, she finished third in the 200 individual medley, was part of the 200 free relay that set a new Fairmont State mark, fifth in the 400 medley relay, second in the 200 free, second in the 800 free, second in the 200 back, third in the 400 free relay, and set the 200 back record in the prelims.
