BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Swimmer of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Davis & Elkins swept the awards as Lasse Schrieken was named the MEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week while Daphne McCann was the MEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
Schrieken, a sophomore from Veenendall, Netherlands, recorded multiple wins across two meets against West Virginia Wesleyan to close the regular season. He won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.69 and the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:01.14, in the first meet. He then followed with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with at time of 22.65 in the second meet. Schrieken also contributed to three relay wins, swimming on the 400-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay. This season, Schrieken ranks second in the MEC in both the 200-yard IM and 400-yard IM, and third in the 200-yard breaststroke.
McCann, a senior from Stockton, Califorina, recorded multiple individual wins across two meets against West Virginia Wesleyan to close the regular season. In the first meet, she won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.22 and the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 31.86. In the second meet, McCann added another victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:26.51. She also contributed to relay wins as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams.
